The Kitsune loves a good puzzle, which is why the snowy region of Ezo, the Teshio Ridge, is riddled with them. Players can find 4 Closed-Off Buildings in Ghost of Yotei, each with no door to open, but plenty of deadly shinbo that defend them. If players want to know how to find them all, what awaits them inside, and how exactly they can access each of them, then we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ll outline the locations of every Closed-Off Building in Ghost of Yotei, along with the puzzle solution for all Closed-Off Buildings!

If you are curious about how we figured out the puzzles, then you will want to know how we translated the symbols. This is actually easily achieved by following through The Kitsune, the main questline of Teshio Ridge, as you will eventually be given a cipher to translate the symbols and the fox statue puzzle pieces.

How to Open the Closed-Off Building (Crimson Forest) in Ghost of Yotei

Crimson Forest Closed-Off Building Location & Solution

  • Location: North region of Crimson Forest

Once you reach the Teshio Ridge region, head to the east where you’ll find the Crimson Forest, noted for the trees covered in red leaves. Continue east until you’re above the “M” and “S” in “Crimson” on the map, and you’ll eventually reach the Closed-Off Building. Now, it’s time to solve the puzzle to enter.

To the right of the building, you’ll find two fox statues with a torch between them in a brazer. Pick up the torch. Now, you’re going to want to locate and light the two unlit lanterns that have a lying down fox statue above them. If you light the pyre that has a sitting fox, then death is assured. These statues are to the left of the Closed-Off Building, and to the left of the entrance against a tree. Once that’s done, enter the building and grab the Altar of Reflection for a skill point, and the Intelligence Report that marks an old man in the Red Crane Inn worth investigating.

How to Open the Closed-Off Building (Sarobetsu Forest) in Ghost of Yotei

Sarobetsu Forest Closed-Off Building Location & Solution

  • Location: West region of Sarobetsu Forest

Head north west in the Teshio Ridge to find the Sarobetsu Forest, a snow-covered landscape that will freeze Atsu if she’s not careful. This dangerous tundra requires players to be fast, as the snow will slowly eat at their health bar. You can find this Closed-off Building underneath the “A” in “Sarobetsu” when looking at the map.

Once you’re here, look to the right of the building where you’ll find a straw lantern with an arrow pointing forward. Walk towards the lantern with an arrow painted on it, and then walk behind it to fall into a hole. Within the hole is a fox statue that you can interact with. With the statue interacted with, leap out of the hole and then pick up the statue on the right, found at the front door that has the left paw raised, and place it into the empty altar on the left. You can now enter the Closed-Off Building to find the Altar of Reflection and an Intelligence Report that will mark the Nakajima Sake House as a point of interest.

How to Open the Closed-Off Building (Sentinel Forest) in Ghost of Yotei

Sentinel Forest Closed-Off Building Location & Solution

  • Location: South region of Sentinel Forest

Head north west in the Teshio Ridge region, where you’ll eventually come to the Sentinel Forest. Players will then want to head just underneath the first “E” and “N” in “Sentinel” when looking at the map to find an area shrouded with bamboo. You can enter the bamboo maze to find the Closed-Off Building, which, like the others, has no door. However, this one is missing the fox statue.

The goal of this Closed-Off Building is to find the fox statue. To start, look at the Closed-Off Building and take a left through the bamboo maze. Follow the path until you reach the fork in the road, at which there are now three ways to go: left, forward, and right. You need to turn left and melee strike the bamboo in order to find the fox statue, where you can then pick it up and return to the Closed-Off Building. Heading forward will just get you killed. Once you place the fox statue by the front door, you can now open it to get the Intelligence Report for an outpost north of Sakuru Woods, and an Altar of Reflection for a free skill point.

How to Open the Closed-Off Building (Shipwreck Shoal) in Ghost of Yotei

Shipwreck Shoal Closed-Off Building Location & Solution

  • Location: North of Shipwreck Shoal

Head to the far north region of Teshio Ridge where you will find a Closed-Off Building located at the Shipwreck Shoal, just above the “C” and “K” in “Shipwreck” when looking at the map. However, this location has two fox statues that block your path, as the Closed-Off Building is on a mountain that’s just out of reach. In order to actually get to the Closed-Off Building off the coast of Shipwreck Shoal, players are going to need to turn the left fox statue so that it’s facing right, then turn the right fox statue so it’s facing left. Doing so will activate a rope that you can walk across to reach the Closed-Off Building.

Now that you’ve made it to the Closed-Off Building, there are two more fox statues. While looking towards the original island, turn the left fox statue so that it’s facing left, and then turn the right fox statue so it’s facing right. This will open the door to the Closed-Off Building, so simply approach it and you’ll find an Altar of Reflection along with an Intelligence Report that tags the Sarufutsu Lighthouse on your map.

Completing all four Closed-Off Buildings doesn’t reward a Trophy or anything extra, but that’s a total of 4 Altars of Reflections that you can use to upgrade Atsu’s skills.
